At last, Cairns.  Lake Placid caravan park is truly lovely to spend time in. It is surrounded by mountains in lush forest and you can even catch glimpses of the train that takes tourists up the mountain to Kuranda. Here you can see the tractor parking the van.  Our first allotted spot was at the top of the park and in a very tight site and he had us in there in a matter of seconds, avoiding trees and other obstacles with ease.  Below is our visit to the Sunday markets at Port Douglas, one of the best markets we have seen.  Very much on the "hippy" side of things but really terrific stalls and a very friendly, fun atmosphere.
This guy cycled for all he was worth to make juice from sugar cane!

Our first few days were in fact very quiet.  We did not go about a lot which explains our silence with the web page.  However, eventually we started to explore again.  The coast road to Port Douglas is always a must so that came first and then the local beaches all of which are truly beautiful.  Holloways Beach is actually quite close to the city and its main attraction is a lovely cafe facing the ocean.
