05 Goodbye Hervey Bay - Hello Emu Park
[Previous Page] [Next Page] [Home]
Our time at Hervey Bay came to the inevitable end so this page looks back with nolstagia on Chilvers, time spent with good friends and even a shot (left) of our favourite house along the prom. Really fancy it!
For one exceptional week we were joined by our friends from Bribie Island, Sandy and Ross and a week followed of fun, food
and laughter and much cycling!
Above is our favourite view with our van on the left and you can see the amazing view we had.  We fitted in a trip to the Botanic Gardens this time and they are beautifully kept and well worth visiting again (next year?)
On the left is one of the sunsets we were treated to each night.  I may also mention that the other end of the bay showed remarkable sunrises too (to those who rose early enough!)
We paid a visit to the ferry terminal over to Fraser Island and although we discussed a trip across we decided not this year.  The whale watch called!
A new toy!  David's flying Eagle!

Our two final weekends covered the Whale Festival in the Bay.  The Blessing of the Fleet (no, not the fishermen as in Freemantle but the whale watching industry which is the life blood of the town). That involved some eating and drinking and  music from local artists on the Saturday and then a fish extravaganza and musical afternoon on the Sunday.  We enjoyed it all and were just thinking of going home as the day was coming to an end and along comes 8 Ball Aitken .  He was such a character and such fun not to mention a genius on his various guitars.
The audience loved him and he loved us, coming down among the dancers trailing wires everywhere and generally wowing us all!  Huge fun.
We met up again with brother Mike and Laura for a Birthday lunch in Maryborough (in the Post Office pub to the right)  We Ordered Fish and Chips for Laura, 2 of the pub specials - spare Ribs.. Sorry only one left. A small roast for Cindy.. Sorry  roast is only evenings. Mike and Cindy settled for Pork chops. Chef offered us wedges as the chips had not arrived in time for lunch. The ribs and chops were inedible and tough as old leather, but the wedges were OK. Also the bar lady had no idea if any of the beers either on-tap or in the fridge were light beer. Altogether not recommended.

We walked along by the beautiful Mary River.  Not much going on in this town but very pretty park.
