Finally indulged in the purchase of a coffee making machine!  Happy David!
Our stay in Hervey Bay is always brightened at the advent of visitors.  Mike and Laura came up and we had a lovely catch up and bbq lunch.

Soon afterwards our major visitation for the year was Julia and her children, Markus and Maggie, accompanied by our good friend Krysia.  Above left is the house they rented for the week - a big spacious Queenslander which was in Scarness, about twenty minutes walk (brisk) down the road from us.

You can actually pick them out in the runway photo, bang slap in the middle.

They hired bikes and one of the first visits in the local area was the famous almost kilometre long jetty. We didn't actually cycle along it as there were too many fishermen and we didn't think it was safe enough.  It was a long cold walk that day as the wind was nasty but we persevered to say that we had "done it"!
Tides out!
We tried to get as much done during the week as possible but of course a great deal of time was spent in the various eateries of the area.  On the left is a favourite cafe where their meals are pretty good and we did a breakfast there and across the road from there is the famous Enzo's which has been redone over the years we have been coming here and is "the place to be seen".  Plus their coffee isn't bad!
The part where Markus is sitting really is on the beach!

One further visit from friends (of which we just didn't get around to taking photos) took place during Julia's visit as they were old friends of all of us, including Krysia.
This was from Peter and Wendy who live in Buderim and who came up for the day. However, they are due to visit again soon and I have vowed to use my trusty camera on them for our future page.
Maggie spends a great deal of her time drawing with whatever materials come to hand so the beach was perfect!
We spent part of one of the days in Maryborough, a town "just up the road".  A very historic down actually and we joined a tour to make sure we saw as much of possible of the history.  One building that caught our attention was on the right, being the site of the first Ford dealer in Australia!!!

In Maryborough, one always has to have a photo of Mary Poppins as of course this is the birth town of P L Travers who wrote the story.

We were able to be taken around the City Hall which has an amazing history and our guide regaled us with many tales of the strong men who were mayors throughout the years.

I wish I could remember them!  However, one that has stuck in our minds is one gentleman who worked his way up the political  ladder to become an actual Senator in the Queensland parliament purely in order to permanently dismantle the Senate and he did it!  Good man, say I, but I am sure some would disagree!

Markus and Margaret had their turn at being the Mayor of Maryborough!
We all visited Mike and Laura much to the delight of all kids present, mainly Julia.  Uncle Mike took all for a country ride in the local forest area in his golf buggy. Fun for all! They came back smiling but very dusty.
On the right, the three Bells.  A fine trio indeed.

Below, resting in the sun after a delicious lunch.
Cycling was a good part of the visit but the time flashed past of course.

We drove to a local town called Howard to their Coal festival.  Couldn't originally work out why it was called that but there is a Coal museum there which we did not visit but presumably it was once a coal mining town.
Fun in the garden, in the local park and on bikes).
And then they were gone!

(However we have devoted an entire page to the visit during their week to Fraser Island)
