We set off the same day for pastures new, in this case, Port Macquarie. Not so new actually as we have stayed there in the past but we were able to meet up with some old friends, Peter and Wendy, from Buderim, who had had a few weeks away in their beautiful new van and were heading home.
We settled in very quickly at the Breakwater van park right near the beaches and the river and it was back to beach and swimming!
However, we did a lot of exploring this time, including a magnificent walk from a lighthouse back along a number of stunning beaches interspersed with bushland, lots of birds and butterflies about and one large lizard who did not seem to worried about being almost trodden on!
These few days will be mainly remembered by the lovely meals had together and the evening drinks time when we talked about everything under the sun and enjoyed some good laughs (and not a mozzie to be found!)
We feel we have learned a lot more about Port Macquarie this time around as we have taken the time to explore – it really is a lovely spot with an enormous choice of beaches and the river is full of dolphins and one extremely large turtle..
Outside the post office one morning about to get on our bikes, a lovely lady came up to us and asked if we cycled a lot, saying that she used to do so and missed it but felt at 89 she couldn’t do it anymore! She certainly did not look her age but said she felt a bit sad having lived in “this lovely town for over 30 years in a house with an lovely view which she could no longer see so well anymore as she is going blind”. Oh dear. As we sympathized with her she said, “Oh no dears, at 89 I have had a very good innings and I can still get around”. Amazing and humbling at the same time
To continue the saga of the car fridge. David found a company who offered to fix it but in fact it will end up in Ballina! So when we leave P/Macq we will go off into the country for a while, mainly to escape the hordes during Easter time, and then end up in the Ballina area to pick up the fridge at a later date.
